- How to hire an off-duty officer for security?
Off-duty City of Bentonville police officers may be hired by a private entity to provide security related services. Common assignments include providing security at churches, private businesses, races and special events.
Effective May 01, 2023, the City of Bentonville's rate to hire an off duty police officer is $75.00 per hour for each officer assigned, with a minimum of 3 hours per event. This amount is not intended to cover all the city's costs but assist with providing high quality services to the community for requested details outside the normal scope of officers work assignments. Each officer working the detail is considered "on-duty" and the officer's are paid time and a half at their hourly rate. Time and a half refers to the amount of extra payment that employees working overtime are entitled to receive and requirements are set in the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
The total amount due will be billed by the City of Bentonville after the event and payment will be made directly to the City of Bentonville at 1000 SW 14th Street, Bentonville, AR 72712 (479) 271-5959.
Any request for officers working special events is coordinated through our Operations Division. Please contact Captain Tony Marveggio at anthoney.marveggio@bentonville.arkansas.gov or Lieutenant Glynn Bertrand at glynn.bertrand@bentonville.arkansas.gov.
