A prior customer that has had an account turned over to a collection agency, filed bankruptcy against a City of Bentonville utility account, or your final utility bill is more than 15 days past due, your deposit will be two times the above rate.
Deposits are maintained for at least 12 months and may be refunded for good payment history. Should you close your account, any security deposit on your utility account is automatically applied to your final bill and if any credit exists it is refunded.
Credit letters will no longer be accepted to waive deposits. The City will run a credit assessment for each applicant as part of our normal ID verification that will provide an objective credit-based deposit decision. Based on this information, customers will either have the deposit waived, pay the standard deposit, or pay the higher risk deposit. Irrevocable Letters of Credit and Surety Bonds will still be accepted for commercial customers.
