Bentonville Public Library Looks Forward to a Promising 2024

MEDIA RELEASE

In 2023, Bentonville Public Library was the heart of the community. From a Groundbreaking Ceremony to Bentonville 150 celebrations to the Library’s Topping Out event, the year was full of special events and unique initiatives that brought joy to community members and engaged them in various activities.

The Library officially began its expansion and remodel project, which will include a state-of-the-art maker space, a larger storytime area, and a craft area for children. The teen zone is also being reimagined with study and collaboration spaces for youth. Adults will enjoy a new book club lounge, community hub and access to more meeting spaces. The construction project is well underway and promises to make room for more of what our community enjoys at Bentonville Public Library.

The Li’l Library in the Park debuted at Lake Bentonville Park, broadening access to books. The Seed Library was introduced, allowing patrons to take seeds to plant and grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers. The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program also encouraged parents and caregivers to read to their young children, with rewards and incentives. These projects successfully promoted literacy and learning and complement several other special programs hosted by the Library, including Bentonville GeekCon, OZ Kids™ Bike & Book Fest and Summer Reading Club.

In the year 2024, the Library is proud to offer many opportunities for connection and learning! One of the most exciting programs is BPL's Book Marathon, which encourages readers to explore the extensive collection and branch out to new genres. The Library has curated lists of great reads, ranging from poetry to books in translation.

BPL is offering many events, celebrating our diverse community as we start off 2024.

On January 27th starting at 11 am, join us in celebrating The Chinese New Year! Enjoy a morning of Chinese cultural activities for kids. You can listen to stories, learn Chinese vocabulary, and participate in traditional Chinese art-making. At 2 pm experience traditional Chinese Dance and learn about the history and traditions behind the celebrations. All ages are welcome, and no registration is required.

Additionally, the Bentonville Library will co-host an event with Two Friends Books, featuring renowned author Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, for an evening Q&A and talk about his book Chain Gang All-Stars on Friday, February 2nd at 6:30 pm.

For Black History month celebrate the history and achievements of Black Americans by joining the BPL, Mayor Stephanie Orman and Magician Tommy Terrific. Saturday February 3rd from 12 pm to 1 pm.

The Mayor’s Book Club is back for another year with quarterly discussions that feature good books. Join us on January 29th at 6 pm to discuss The Power of Habit, by Charles Duhigg.

With the expansion scheduled to wrap up by the fall of 2024, the Library is committed to continuing to engage and connect with the community in 2024 and beyond.

More information about BPL’s Book Marathon and other offerings planned for 2024 can be found online at bentonvillelibrary.org or by subscribing to the library’s e-newsletter.
