Bentonville Community Center Receives Award

Bentonville, AR…On Thursday, September 15th, the Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association presented Bentonville Parks & Recreation the “Recreation Facility of the Year” award for the Bentonville Community Center. This award was presented at the ARPA Annual Conference in Texarkana, AR. This recognition was judged based on the innovative nature of the facility as well as activities offered and the population served.

The Bentonville Community Center opened on June 6, 2015. Since opening day, the facility has made an immediate impact on the citizens of Bentonville and Northwest Arkansas. Current membership numbers stand at approximately 15,000 people, with more than 385,000 people visiting the facility in its first year of operation. Additionally, the Bentonville Community Center has offered more than 124 recreation programs and employs more than 100 people.

Also during the first year, the facility has proven to provide an opportunity for tourism and economic development. In addition to numerous events, the facility hosted the 7A West Conference Diving and Swimming Meets as well as the Arkansas Activities Association’s State Swimming and Diving Championships.

The community rooms in the facility have had the privilege of hosting several events including the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Father/Daughter Valentine’s Dance, Bentonville Public Library’s Youth Literature Festival and the Bentonville Police Department’s 100 Year Anniversary Celebration. In addition, the facility offers large daily events such as art classes, Camp Bentonville, fitness classes and instructional swimming.

David Wright, Parks & Recreation Director said “The Bentonville Community Center portrays the model of how our community’s collective vision can be transformed in a shared reality of recreation, leisure, and culture. I am very proud of our team and how they are delivering the services to our patrons. We sincerely hope the Bentonville Community Center will continue to serve and make a lasting impact on our community.”
