Bentonville District Court’s DWI Court program has been chosen by the Arkansas State Police, Highway Safety Office to be a recipient of a $15,000 Highway Safety Grant. This Grant award is to be used to further the training and development of the DWI Court Team.
The Bentonville District Court’s DWI Court program began in January 2012. DWI Courts are post-adjudication and problem solving courts whose participants are repeat DWI offenders. The goal of DWI Court is to improve public safety, save tax payer dollars and reduce recidivism through changing behaviors of repeat offenders. Traditional responses from courts are less effective in achieving these goals. The program uses a Team approach and involves intensive monitoring, treatment and accountability of the participants. DWI Courts follow the ten (10) Guiding Principles developed by the National Drug Court Institute.
