Posted: January 05 2015

Bentonville, AR....Monday, December 15, 2014, the Bentonville Police Department announced the 2014 Officer of the Year and 2014 Civilian of the Year.  The Officer of the Year and Civilian Employee of the Year Awards represent a long standing tradition at the Bentonville Police Department.  Each year, award recipients are selected by a voting process.  The criteria for selection include, among other qualities, a sense of duty and service that reflects great professionalism and also brings credit to both the law enforcement profession and the City of Bentonville.  All police department personnel, both sworn and civilian, participate in the ballot process.

The 2014 Officer of the Year Award was presented to Officer Andrew Oliver.  Officer Oliver is a 16 year veteran of law enforcement, beginning his career in 1998 as a Communications Officer at the Bentonville Police Department.  He was promoted to the position of police officer and attended the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy in 2000.  After graduating from the Academy, Officer Oliver worked as a patrol officer at the Bentonville Police Department until 2005.  Officer Oliver continued his law enforcement career at the Benton County Sheriff’s Office from 2005 to 2012, earning the rank of Field Sergeant. In 2012, Officer Oliver returned to the Bentonville Police Department and currently serves in the Uniform Division as a certified instructor and field training officer.  He is also a certified negotiator and member of our Negotiations Team.

The 2014 Civilian Employee of the Year Award was presented to Jeremy Crowder. Jeremy is an IT (Information Technology) Technician with the City of Bentonville’s IT Group.  He has 15 years of experience in the IT industry and has performed duties such as server administration, IP network design, and client support and has been with the City of Bentonville for four years.  He is the primary IT Technician for the Bentonville Police Department, as well as the Fire Department, and the Bentonville Emergency Communications Center.  Jeremy has a vast range of experience in public safety and has served as a part-time Fire Fighter, 9-1-1 Dispatcher, and Police Officer.  He holds multiple certifications in both fire services and law enforcement. Jeremy attended the police academy at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri where he received a POST Certification. He also holds an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science and Network Technology and has further education in relevant technologies.

Both Officer Oliver and Jeremy Crowder will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to our police department and our community at a departmental awards ceremony in January, 2015.
