Community Planning Month

Bentonville, AR… The American Planning Association and its members participate in Community Planning Month to raise the visibility of the important role of city planners and community planning across the United States. Community Planning Month is held annually in October. This year’s theme is Innovation in Planning.

To celebrate Community Planning Month, the City of Bentonville partnered with Bentonville area schools to hold a youth art poster contest for junior high and high school age students.

The goal is to provide students the opportunity to visually express their ideas and experiences of innovation in planning in Bentonville, including the important role planning plays in addressing and adapting to challenges faced by communities in the 21st century.

The winning artwork was created by Anumi Wickramasinghe, an eighth grader who attends Fulbright Junior High School. Her art teacher is Jerris Palmer.

Anumi will be congratulated at the poster unveiling, held before City Council at 5:45 pm on Tuesday, October 24th. The poster will be displayed on the south side of the Community Development building for one year.

At City Council that evening, Mayor McCaslin will read a proclamation recognizing October as Community Planning Month in Bentonville.
