Bentonville Merchants Baseball Park Dedication Ceremony Reschedule

Bentonville, AR….. Due to the heavy rain and severe weather we received last week, the Dedication Ceremony of Merchants Baseball Park has been rescheduled for this Saturday, April 25th at 10:00am. The baseball park is located at 205 NW Elm Tree Road.

In 2013, Bentonville Parks and Recreation began a project to renovate an old set of baseball fields behind Elm Tree Elementary School. Over the last two years, new amenities such as a permanent concession / restroom facility, new fencing, dugouts, bleachers, scoreboards, a parking lot, and landscaping were added to the facility.

In fall 2014, Bentonville Youth Baseball celebrated its 60th year of service to our community. During preparation of the celebration, organizers learned the group of people who started the league was actually a semi-professional baseball team who called Bentonville home. This team’s name was the Bentonville Merchants. Alumni of this team include former Major League All Star Lindy McDaniel (St. Louis Cardinals), Don Kaiser (Chicago Cubs) and Ron Loveless (Former CEO Sam’s Club). To honor this team’s contribution, Bentonville Parks and Recreation proudly renamed the facility, “Merchants Baseball Park”.

Several original Merchants players will be in attendance during the ceremony. This includes Al Knox, Duke Saunders, and Lindy McDaniel. Please join us at the ball fields for a celebration before the first game is officially played.

Bentonville Youth Baseball players will wear commemorative Bentonville Merchants jerseys and caps provide by the Bentonville Rotary Club. The ceremony begins at 10am with games beginning at 10:30am.
