Planning Department
The Planning Division is responsible for managing growth and development within the City of Bentonville and the
planning area surrounding the corporate City Limits. The Planning Department assists the Planning Commission and
the Board of Adjustment by preparing reports and handling the day-to-day operations necessary for these two boards
to function. This department enforces the Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Regulations. The department assists with
preparation and adoption of the City's General Plan and regulations to implement its guiding policies. Enforcement
and implementation are achieved through development review, Planning Commission and City Council actions.
Current Planning
Current Planning is the implementation of the City's long range plans through the development review process for
large scale developments, planned zoning districts and subdivisions and through staff recommendations relating to
zoning and conditional use applications. The Planning Division currently administers the City's Flood Damage
Prevention Code. Issues relating to flood plain development must be reviewed and permitted according to city and
federal regulations.

Planning Services
Planning Services involves the studies and plans that guide decisions regarding future growth and development.
These include the Master Street Plan, General Plan, and Future Land Use Plan. Research projects, special assignments,
special committees, new ordinances, ordinance revisions, grant writing and administration of the Community Development
Block Grant (CDBG) program are handled by the Planning Services staff.
