Mayor's Office

Mayor’s Welcome

Whether visiting or making this your home, you will quickly find what many have already discovered, Bentonville, Arkansas, is a fantastic place to live.

About Bentonville

Bentonville is the county seat of Benton County and is home to various county offices. The City of Bentonville has a mayor-city council form of government. Several boards and commissions contribute to the oversight of the many services and functions provided to our citizens.

Located in scenic northwest Arkansas, our City has become a prime destination for the entire business world. We are proud of the fact that we are home to Walmart, the world’s largest retailer and world-renowned Crystle Bridges Museum of American Art. Bentonville’s population continues to grow and the 2020 US census reflects our current population at 54,426.

Hot Destination

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art opened in 2011, has more than doubled its collection since then, and has helped spur economic development in Bentonville by attracting tourists worldwide. The museum has welcomed more than 5 million people since its opening. World-renowned architect, Moshe Safdie, designed this spectacularly modern museum. His creation uniquely integrates nature and art with sublime architecture and conservation of the natural environment. Crystal Bridges currently has 217,000 square feet of galleries, meeting and classroom space, library, sculpture garden, and gathering place for up to 300 people, will be an esteemed landmark for decades to come. Crystal Bridges announced in 2021 an expansion of nearly 100,000 sq. feet which will increase the size by 50 percent. Groundbreaking is anticipated in early 2022, and planners hope to complete construction in 2024.

Expansion

It is an exciting time, and we are busily expanding our infrastructure and public services to meet our citizens' and visitors' growing demands. The City has been named by Arkansas Business as a City of Distinction in two categories: Main Street Preservation and Quality of Life. Bentonville also received the coveted State of Arkansas SHINE Award, recognizing the City’s programs and policies that improve its beauty, environment, and quality of life.

Utility System

The City’s utility system includes our own electric distribution system, a water distribution system with water supplied by Beaver Water District, two wastewater treatment plants, a solid waste collection system, and a composting facility. Weekly sanitation service, including recyclables, is provided to all of our utility customers.

Public Safety

Our police and fire departments have grown to keep pace with our phenomenal population growth. Residents enjoy the benefits that result from the excellent rating our fire protection has received. Our police department is committed to providing a safe environment for all of our citizens and visitors 24 / 7.

Parks

The City boasts a park system consisting of more than 1,000 acres of parkland, including over 50 miles of trails. A portion of this trail system connects recreational enthusiasts to the 36 miles Northwest Arkansas Razorback Regional Greenway, which links residents to many popular destinations in five major cities. The park system itself features 20 parks ranging from large sports field complexes to neighborhood parks.

In 2015, Bentonville Parks & Recreation opened the doors to the 80,000 square foot Community Recreation Center. This facility serves residents of all ages. Amenities at this facility include an aquatic center, fitness center, dance/aerobics studio, gymnasium, indoor running track, community rooms, and more.

Library

Opened in 2006, Bentonville’s Public Library is truly a state-of-the-art facility. Located two blocks from our historic downtown square, this facility is a great place to study or to relax on the porch with a cup of coffee. In 2015, BPL’s mini branch at Bentonville Community Center opened.

Schools

The Bentonville public school district has been widely recognized for excellence and has established itself as a leader within Arkansas. The school system is one of the fastest-growing in the state and serves more than 18,000 students. There are 23 campuses, and six new schools are expected for 2025. The district is ranked as a top school district in the US by Niche.com and has more A’s from the Arkansas Department of Education than any other school. The US Department of Education lists Bentonville as a Blue Ribbon School district and US News and World Report list Bentonville as one of the Best High Schools in the US. There are also several award-winning private and charter schools, including Thaden School serving nearly 600 students, Haas HallNorthwest Arkansas Classical Academy, and Arkansas Connections.

Churches

Bentonville’s citizens find a wide variety of churches for worship opportunities and ministry services such as child daycare, youth groups, and family activities.

Continued Growth

According to the US Census Bureau, Bentonville is considered the 5th fastest-growing City in the United States. With the new Walmart home office campus construction in Bentonville spanning more than 350 acres, our City has a strong economic base and shows no signs of slowing down. Motivated and guided by active community leaders, our area grows and attracts nationally recognized retail, lodging, food, and service industries.
