Bentonville, AR...May 27, 2024 - 1:00pm
Residents of Bentonville,
I hope this message finds you safe and well, despite the severe weather conditions we experienced yesterday, May 26, 2024.
First and foremost, I want to extend my thoughts and prayers to all those who have been affected by the severe weather. Our community has once again demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity, and I am deeply grateful for the spirit of solidarity and support that has been evident throughout our city.
As your Mayor, it is my priority to ensure that the City of Bentonville responds effectively to such events. Our emergency response teams have been working tirelessly to assess the damage and provide assistance to those in need. I want to express my sincere gratitude to our first responders, public works personnel, and all those who have been involved in the response efforts. Your dedication and commitment to serving our community are truly commendable.
Many of you may be dealing with the aftermath of the storm, and I want to address some key areas of concern:
Power Outages: Over 4,500 customers are still without electric power as on 5/27/2024 at 12:50pm, and our teams are working diligently to restore it. We have over 100 broken poles, and both city teams and contract workers are mobilized to expedite repairs. Some may experience extended outages, and I assure you that we are prioritizing these cases. Teams from North Little Rock, Conway Corp., and Jonesboro are enroute to assist our team the contractors.
Street Debris: Our street and public works teams are working to clear streets impacted by debris. Once clearance is complete, we will announce details for a city-wide pickup. Residents can place debris at the curb for collection.
Compost Facility: The compost facility at 2000 NW A is open today until 6:00pm for drop-off. Please note that limbs should be 6 feet or less in length and 24 inches or less in diameter, with no stumps, trunks, or trash.
Parks and Trails: Our parks and recreation team is assessing damage to parks and trails. For safety reasons, we ask residents to stay off trails until they are deemed safe. Watch our website and social media pages for updates on Park facilities.
Volunteer Efforts: Once areas are safe, we will ask for volunteers to assist with cleanup efforts. Many community groups are organizing volunteer initiatives, and your participation is highly encouraged.
Neighbors helping neighbors has been a hallmark of our community, and I have no doubt that this spirit will guide us through the recovery process. Together, we will rebuild and emerge stronger than ever before.
Once again, my thoughts are with each and every one of you during this challenging time. Let us stand together as a community, united in our resolve to overcome adversity and build a brighter future for Bentonville.
Mayor Stephanie Orman
