[ARCHIVED] Blue Star Memorial Marker Dedication

BENTONVILLE, Ark., October 31, 2024 - Bentonville Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Bentonville Garden Club, cordially invites the public to attend a Blue Star Memorial marker dedication on Monday, November 4, at Memorial Park.

Named for the Blue Star in the service flag, which is prominently displayed in windows of homes and businesses to honor service personnel, the Blue Star Program was introduced in 1945 by the National Council of State Garden Clubs. With approval at their 1981 convention, the Blue Star Memorial Highway Program was expanded to include a smaller by-way marker for placement in parks and on civic and historical grounds. Each memorial marker includes an inscription, “A tribute to the Armed Forces who have defended the United States of America”.

Members of the Bentonville Garden Club were instrumental in the application and purchase of the Blue Star marker recently placed in Memorial Park located at 401 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway. They will formally unveil and dedicate the marker to the city of Bentonville at 10a.m. in a special ceremony with state dignitaries, local leaders, and military veterans in attendance. Parking is available directly behind the ballfields. There will be a brief reception following the event in the park pavilion.
