Water Service Line Upgrades
What to expect and how Bentonville is improving your water system
Why Did I Get This Notice?
If you received a door hanger from Bentonville Water Utilities, your property is scheduled for a residential water service line replacement. This page explains what to expect, when crews will return, and how this work fits into our long-term infrastructure strategy.
What to Expect: Step-by-Step
1. Utility Locates
Crews will mark underground utilities with paint and flags. This happens first, typically within 1–2 days of your notice.
2. Boring and Excavation
A small tunnel is bored under the street, with access pits on each side. This step is usually completed in one day.
3. Service Line Replacement
Your old water line is replaced with a newer, more durable pipe.
Your water will be temporarily shut off during this step (you’ll be notified in advance).
4. Yard and Surface Restoration
This step happens 1–2 weeks later, after the ground has had time to settle. A separate crew will return to restore grass, sod, or concrete.
Note: Each step is performed by a different team. If your yard looks unfinished, it doesn’t mean you’ve been skipped—restoration is scheduled separately.
Why This Matters
Bentonville Water Utilities has identified thousands of underground leaks across the system, many of them in residential service lines. These leaks aren’t visible from the surface, but they contribute to real systemwide loss and rising costs if left unaddressed.
This project is about fixing what we've found. By replacing service lines where leaks have been confirmed, the city is reducing waste, improving service reliability, and investing in long-term infrastructure performance. It’s a focused response to a known issue—carried out with the same high standards that Bentonville applies across every city service.
