Responsibilities
Members of the Fire Marshal's Office have the responsibility to investigate the "origin and cause" of all fires and explosions within the city limits when requested by the on-duty shift commander. Our investigators work closely with the Bentonville Police Department, Arkansas State Police (ASP) and The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) when investigations exceed the resources of our department.
Training & Certification
All lead investigators are certified by the National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI) as Certified Fire and Explosion Investigators (CFEI), which certifies that the individuals have met minimum requirements for experience and training. Lead investigators have also received specialized training from the ATF and The National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
All other investigators have completed the requirements of the Arkansas Fire Training Academy to be certified by the state as fire investigators.
