Firefighter Development Program (FDP)

The Firefighter Development Program (FDP) is the Bentonville Fire Department’s pathway for developing the skills, knowledge, and certifications required to become a full-time career firefighter. This program is designed for motivated individuals who are ready to serve their community while preparing for a future in the fire service.

FDP members are considered full members of the Bentonville Fire Department and are expected to uphold the same high standards of professionalism, integrity, and dedication as our career firefighters. The program is structured to be flexible—ideal for those who are currently in school, working, or balancing other commitments—while still providing hands-on training and real emergency response experience.


Minimum Requirements

To be eligible for the Firefighter Development Program, applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of testing

  • Possess a valid driver’s license

  • Have a high school diploma or GED

  • Pass a written exam and physical agility test

  • Live within 75 miles of Bentonville Fire Station 1
    (800 S.W. “A” Street, Bentonville, AR)

  • Attend two evening training sessions per month

  • Complete 24 hours of shift work per month

  • Be available to respond to emergency incidents while off duty
